Impacts on Geophysics

10 décembre 2018, par Administrateur

If successful, the temporal (over 1 month) and spatial (along the seismic arrays) variations of the ice layer building up on Vallunden Lake will be monitored with an original approach involving cutting-edge geophysical technology and methodology, relying on leaky guided waves measurements. Such waves are a well-known phenomenon in Geophysics. Yet so far they have proved difficult to measure without a dedicated seismic array and current observations remain mostly qualitative. The present project will demonstrate that, given adequate methodology and technology, a quantitative measure of these waves is possible, thus opening new possibilities for the imaging and characterization of elongated structures in the Earth, such as fault zones, landslides and also urban compacted soils.
